It strikes you almost immediately after you land in Bali! It is so much like India but it is so different. Almost, as soon as you leave the Ngurah Rai International Airport, you see a statue of Arjuna at war with Ghtatotkacha. It strikes you because the characters are back home but you are seeing them in a foreign land but you’ll never see something like this in India.
Here are some of the temples that should be part of your Bali Temple Tour:
One of Bali’s holiest sites stands majestically over 70-metre-high cliffs overlooking the vast ocean. It is truly Balinese architecture. If you are heading here, make sure you watch the Kecak dance performance as a part of your Uluwatu temple Tour.
The dance is an Indonesian retelling of the Ramayana, with Hanuman as the protagonist. The troupe provides the rhythm to the entire performance by continually saying Kecak. As the performance, moves on the sun begins to set. You are at such a vantage point to watch the mesmerising performance and the sunset. It’s almost too much beauty, all encapsulated in one majestic moment! Tanah Lot
Like Uluwatu, Tanah Lot is one of Bali’s holiest temples, it is by the sea and it boasts of a beautiful sunset. But, to think that you’ve seen them one, you’ve seen them all would be a terrible mistake.
Tanah Lot is a temple that straddles both the land and the water with equal grace. It is less than an hour from Kuta and please plan to be here around the sunset.
There are also tons of shops for souvenirs and other collectables which will make your trip to Tanah Lot memorable. All in all, Tanah Lot is a must on your Bali Temple Tour.
Besakih is called the mother temple in Bali and is over 1000 years old. It sits atop Mount Agung which around 1000 metres above sea level. The Besakih temple comprises of 86 temples within its complex.
Be sure to climb to the top of the temple complex which offers great views of the surrounding mountains. You will need to buy a strong, which is available at the entrance before you enter the temple.
Located very close to Ubud, this temple was actually an archaeological site. Goa Gajah translates to Elephant Cave, though there are no elephants to be found here. The cave was originally a meditation site. The cave is not very deep and has lots of idols and cosy spots to meditate.
