This 5 days Switzerland itinerary is carefully designed so that you can enjoy your Swiss vacation to the fullest.
The trip begins in Geneva which is a culturally vibrant city with admirable sights, sumptuous food and shopping destinations. This trip is incomplete without visiting the Palais des Nations which is the UN office in Geneva. There are guided tours of the complex starting at 10:00 a.m. in the morning. Make sure to carry your passport when you are here.
Once you are done, stroll around the city and enjoy a tour to Vielle Ville. There are a number of antique shops, cafes and boutiques in the old town that looks really enticing. Make sure to visit the stunning St. Pierre Cathedral and climb the towers to get a panoramic view of the entire city. There are numerous bars and restaurants in Geneva where you can relax and indulge in exotic dishes after your eventful journey.
On the second day, go for a trip to Saleve which is only a short bus ride from the central station. You can either hike which would take around two hours or you can enjoy a cable car ride that would take you to the top within ten minutes. From the top, get a spectacular view of Geneva as well as the distant Alps. After the Saleve trip, you can unwind in the splendid Italian district of Geneva, named Carouge. This place has a unique bohemian charm with boutique stores and homeware.
On the third day, you would depart from Geneva and travel to Zermatt. The approximate travel time is five hours by train. Zermatt is a car-free town and the train journey to this place is simply unforgettable. This small yet impressive town is dominated by the Matterhorn Mountain and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Switzerland.
Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is a must visit destination when you are here. Zermatt is the home to the summer ski resort and is well known for the highest cable car station in the Europe continent. If you are a ski lover, skiing at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is an incredible experience. You can also visit the Glacier Palace which is an enchanting museum with ice sculptures and crystals.
On the fourth day, you head towards Montreux. The travel time by train is around three hours. When you are here, a visit to Chateau De Chilion is a must. It is an island castle on Lake Geneva. If you have time, go for a pleasurable ride to Gruyeres in the chocolate train which is the highlight of this tour.
