The Pamplemousses Botanical garden is a world-renowned garden which has many indigenous and exotic florae. The star attraction of the garden is the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies, the leaves of which can grow up to 3m in diameter.
It is also a great place to find some peace and quiet or go for a quiet stroll in the arms of nature.
Sugar is an important ingredient in the history of Mauritius. Mauritius has long been exploited for sugar, right from the Dutch who were the first to colonise Mauritius in the early 17th century. All this makes the Sugar estate and museum a must visit while on your North Island Tour in Mauritius.
The estate spreads over 5000 square meters. Also, make sure to the taste the locally made sugars and you are up for it even the Mauritius rum.
The capital of Mauritius, Port Louis is a great mix of the old and the new. The buildings from the French colonial era like the Government house to the modern Le Caudan Waterfront shopping complex will satiate all your shopping desires.
You could also try the central market where you can buy locally made wares, textiles and handicrafts.
Also called La Citadelle, Fort Adelaide provides a vantage point to view Port Louis. The drive up there also provides great views of the capital.
