The tallest mountain in Southeast Asia, standing at a towering 4000 metres above sea level, makes Mount Kinabalu one of the highest trekkable mountains in the world.
The trek takes 3 days unless you are an expert hiker, in which case, you could be able to do it in a day or two.
For the less adventurous, Mount Kinabalu’s botanical garden is rich in flora which has close to 5000 species of plants.
The Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is a collection of five islands just off the coast of the city. The islands have tons of activities especially for the adventurous.  The marine park is also one of the best beach in Kota Kinabalu.
The two biggest islands, Gaya and Manukan, are the best for tourists with beaches great for both a swim or a stroll.
The Kota Kinabalu Wetland centre is a 24-hectare mangrove swamp with tons of wildlife like turtles, water monitor, lobsters and crabs. The main attractions are the migratory birds.
It is just a 5-minute drive from the city centre and a 15-minute walk from the City Observatory.
The majestic city mosque of Kota Kinabalu is located on the sea and is a great example of modern Islamist architecture.
This huge mosque can accommodate up to 12,000 people. It is open to the public on all days except Fridays.
Located on the waterfront, this beautiful esplanade has some great pubs and restaurants for you to unwind after a long day. Most hotels are located at a walking distance from the waterfront, making this a very lively place to hang out in the evening.
The Sabah Museum is a must for the culture and history lover. This museum chronicles the amazing history of the Sabahan culture and has great sections for the natural history, ethnography.
